I became enamored
of mosaics upon finishing my first class. There was something calming about the precision necessary and fitting the pieces together to create a painting
in glass. I found the colors of glass to be mesmerizing and nearly breathtaking. A passion
was born!
My early mosaics were
made using mostly stained glass and vitreous tiles. Soon, I wanted more. My quest took me to Italy on two occasions, both life changing events.
There, I discovered smalti and some of the most amazing mosaics in the world. I felt honored to work under master mosaists and to be part of an art form
that has been around since the Pharaohs.
I now work mostly in smalti, using tools that have been used since Byzantine times. That connection to
the past is powerful. I'm not sure I have a "style" yet, because it continues to evolve. I do some abstracts
now, incorporating
other materials with the smalti. Realism is still my favorite, to show perspective and shading in glass.
My evolution continues as I learn from master mosaists and fellow artists
