Over the years, my creative outlook has gone through many changes.
Stylistically and conceptually, my progress has led me to a more defined
and cohesive series of work. These artworks combine the interests in my life as well as the philosophies I follow. Therefore, what has developed is a very personal art that represents the accumulation of
my memories and experiences.
My work revolves around the concept of memory. Everything that I create originates
in memory. I believe that the forms in my art are all memories, whether or not they are faint or clear in my conscious. However,
I also share memories through my art that are not limited to my own.
I use history to grasp the experiences of others. By doing this I am imposing past memories onto my own and bringing awareness
to voices that have long been lost.
My techniques are a reflection of my philosophy on art. One of the main elements
in my artwork is the combination of the new and old. I assemble things
found, things recycled, and things new into my work. These often take the form of shadow boxes or collages. I collect anything
I find aesthetically appealing and unique, knowing I will some day
find a place for it in one of my pieces. I use various artistic disciplines in executing these works. These include painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, and sculpture. My color palette generally remains neutral. I find that there is more unity and structure to the occasionally random objects that compose my work
if I stay within a narrow and natural range of
color.
My artistic observations and the accompanying works are the result of a great deal
of time and thought. There is a reason why I choose to make a certain composition or use a particular object. Finding this
reason is a journey back through my memory, into my subconscious, and into the different periods of history. My artwork is
a collection of all these thoughts and a portrayal of myself.
