An American of Greek origin, Chris Cameris studied in Alexandria, Egypt, at the Atelier,
a leading MiddleEast art Center. He creates compositions that are both abstract and representational - often, human forms
set amid fantasy backgrounds, dominated by circles and curves that intertwine and merge into one another, with vibrant colors
that pulsate with energy and sensuality.
In his paintings, Cameris seeks to balance the material with the spiritual, and give an ethereal
glow to the subject matter through the interplay of light and color. His current work is in mixed media, mostly acrylics,
air brush, spatula and digital painting. He may begin with airbrush, graphite and acrylics on canvas. At some point he will
scan the composition and continue developing it on the computer, experimenting and manipulating light, color and form in ways
impossible to achieve with the traditional media. Then the painting gets back on canvas, and the work continues until it tells
him it is ready.
For Cameris, art is using color, light and form, like a composer uses musical notes, to create
a thing of beauty; a composition, that may or may not resemble nature, but that nevertheless, evokes a pleasureable sensation
to the viewer.
