Cherie Tatge
Cherie Tatge began her career as an artist in her teens. She majored in Fine Art at
the University of Oklahoma then took time out to marry, raise two daughters, and then return to OU for a Masters in Guidance
and Counseling. After a twenty-one year career working in the juvenile justice system, she returned to her art and is currently
painting with oils many of the scenes she sees in her travels around the world. She has studied with the nationally recognized
artists, J. Chris Morel, Carol Armstrong and Ken Auster. Cherie paints in oils on canvas in the impressionist style. Her paintings
reflect subjects which range from southwest United States images to European scenes of Spain and Italy. She has a love of
painting animals and has done commissioned pet portraits as well other animals. She is currently doing a series of donkey
and burro paintings. Tatge says "The burro is an icon of our early southwestern heritage. As beasts of burden, they have been
a help to humans for centuries. I want my paintings to reflect the sweetness, patience but also the toughness of these forgotten
animals. They have such personalities."Cherie's paintings of European architecture in cityscapes, landscapes and seascapes
evoke the moods and emotions of life in today's world. Each painting Cherie does reflects her own perspective on color, composition
and feeling. She paints plein air as well as in her studio from photos she has taken.Cherie Tatge had a one person show in
February and March of 2007 at the Norman Arts Council Gallery in Norman, OK. In 2008, she exhibited at the Shevaun Williams
Studio during the Norman Art Walk. She has also exhibited at the McClain Bank, Norman Branch with another show there scheduled
for January, 2009.
