On Saturday mornings, when she was 8, Mona McCune's mother would
drop her off at the local recreation center in Monroe, Louisiana. There she began her love of art as she painted the still
life displays prepared by her teacher. Over the years she continued to paint and then studied at Louisiana Tech University,
where she received a BFA in painting.
Years
later, as a newlywed, Mona began painting landscapes, being awakened by the rural settings she passed as she commuted to her
office job in Tulsa. Rural Oklahoma inspired her; she had only to look out her
windows or walk outdoors to be moved to paint the open spaces, varied terrain, spectacular "skyworks" and earthy, vibrant
colors. Trips with her husband to New Mexico, Colorado and Arizona, and through Kansas,
provided additional inspiration. Nature took her to new awareness and she began
to paint more boldly and with heightened colors. Her husband helped her prepare an upstairs studio in their garage
where she paints cows, pastures, wildflowers, ponds, storm clouds, rivers and streams
on large and small canvases in expressive brushstrokes that free her to relive
the beauty she finds in nature.
Mona's paintings are in private collections in the United States and
England. Mona is also the author of Perfect Provision: God's Gifts For Your Marriage.
